This is mind-numbing.
This gives you a bit of an idea why people like Michele’s neighbors pay $11,000 per year in real estate taxes and still have to deal with broken streets and broken schools. It helps explain how folks like Geoff find out only at the very last second that the park that their kids play in every day is about to be auctioned off for drilling rights.
Americans are taught from birth that they live in the land of opportunity, and that they are just one lucky break and one more day of hard work from joining the ranks of the wealthy. That they should vote and make decisions that benefit the wealthy, because THEY will be counted among the wealthy soon enough. It’s the biggest con game around, and it’s succeeded in convincing people to vote against their own self-interest for almost 50 years now.
This is gross. And it just screams “class warfare” to me.
