Personally, I can’t help but wonder how many people have “liked” or “reblogged” this, but also had part of their infant son’s genitals—the part that helps protect them, and also helps to enhance male sexual pleasure—cut off soon after birth, without anesthesia, for purely cosmetic reasons. You know, so it would “look like Daddy’s”. Or because they never gave it any thought at all, because “mutilating infant’s genitals” is the description we reserve for what OTHER cultures do, not what is still widely accepted in our own.
If we are going to say that no-anesthesia cosmetic genital surgery on infants is wrong, it needs to be globally wrong—not just wrong when it doesn’t affect what we have been blinded into thinking is normal.
